Chapter Six

The fooling around in that oversized shower had been amazing. She and Jason didn’t exactly have condoms on them, so there was a limited number of things they could do, but when Lisa got out of the water, she was warm and buzzing. Her heart full.

She’d wanted to stay in there forever, but there was a time limit. Not just for when they had to get out of this timeline, but Jane had promised to return within the hour, and while there was no actual ticking clock, it was still ticking.

“At least I don’t have to keep wearing that oversized dress,” Jason grouched, standing at the door, the little muscle under his eye twitching when Angus snorted a laugh at him.

Lisa couldn’t help but smile as well. She wasn’t trying to make fun of him, but it was kind of ridiculous.

“You might want to reconsider,” she teased. “It might be easier. You could hide so much in that compared to your normal pants and shirt. Better for them to underestimate you.”

He held up the collar, still grumbling. “Why does everyone around her wear this anyway? There’s no… individuality to it. I felt like a lemming.”

Lisa laughed out loud, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt with both fists and yanking him forward for a nice, long kiss.

He made a pleased sound, and it felt so easy to get lost in it. If they were real tourists she’d drag him to the enormous bed over there so they could have a proper round two.

Duty called, however. Lisa pulled back from the kiss, patting him on the cheek. “You look handsome in everything you wear. Now stop being a baby and go seduce some gargoyle hottie for me.”

“That’s person of stone,” Jason reminded, his lips twitching. “Which sounds so much worse. How did they come up with POS as their acronym? You think they know what that means?”

“I don’t think too many people insult each other around here with swear words,” Lisa said.

It was probably illegal to swear with a penalty of a government fine.

Hell, the air was so clean here that Lisa figured there was a penalty to pay for farting.

Why not? If they could force magical people to get a license to use what came naturally to them.

Jason hummed in reply. “Still weird though, even if they don’t think of it like that.”

“Yeah, yeah, just try not to make any jokes about it when you’re getting the tour and playing grab ass. I want to get you out of here alive.”

God, this was weird. This was all kinds of levels of fucked up and she wouldn’t blame Jason for wanting out after this whole thing was done.

“Lisa?”

“Yeah?”

Jason leaned in, kissing her softly on the mouth. It could barely be counted as a kiss at all, but as usual, the touch of his mouth centered her the way nothing else could.

“I love you.”

Heat crawled into her cheeks and started making a mess of things. “Yeah, yeah. I love you, too.
